Katy Perry is an America artist, actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson to a religious Christian family, on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California, USA. After completing the requirements for her General Educational Development, she studied at the Music Academy of the West, in Santa Barbara.
Hitherto her rise to fame, Katy Perry sang in church during childhood, and began pursuing commercial music career in her early teenage under the stage name of Katy Hudson, and focusing then only on gospel music. After signing with Red Hill Records, she released her first album called Katy Hudson, in 2001. The album was, however, commercially unsuccessful.
In 2002, Katy Perry shifted her musical focus onto secular music, and changed her stage name to Katy Perry. Nevertheless, it was to take almost five years before she saw some significant improvement in her commercial career in music. After been dropped by Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she finally signed a sustained recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
The signing with Capitol Records was to be a game changer to Katy Perry's life. Particularly, the release of the globally acclaimed masterpiece song I Kissed A Girl in 2008, marked the beginning of unstoppable fame and wealth for Katy Perry. She released her second album One Of The Boys on the same year, that was followed by a third album Teenage Dream in 2010. The third album was an absolute success, featuring masterpieces like Firework, Last Friday Night, California Curls, etc. The album generated five number ones in the US, coming only second to Michael Jackson's album Bad!
She released her fourth album Prism in 2013, that was even more popular than the previous ones. The album entails masterpieces like Roar and Dark Horse. Both songs have each received over 1 billion views on Vevo!
The massive popularity of her albums has made Katy Perry one of the best selling musical artists of all time. She has so far sold over 100 million records worldwide, and was in Forbes list of Top Earning Women in Music (2011 - 2016).
On the entrepreneurship front, Katy Perry has been very successful. She is said to be very clever in making endorsement deals, accepting just a handful but very lucrative contracts like those she signed with Proactiv, Cover Girl, and Addidas. She also has her own fashion and beauty businesses that include her own perfume fragrances, and a make up collection.
In addition to her career as music artist, actress and entrepreneur, Katy Perry is a staunch philanthropist. She has supported many charitable organizations, particularly those concerned with furthering improvement of lives and welfare of children. In 2013, she was named Goodwill Ambassador for the UNICEF, with the task for helping world's most vulnerable children and adolescents. As UNICEF ambassador, Katy Perry has been to far flung places worldwide, e.g. Madagascar and Vietnam, in charitable missions.
Apart from children charities, Katy Perry has supported charitable organizations aimed at helping combating terrible diseases like Cancer and HIV/AIDS. Katy Perry has directly donated her own money for execution of charitable programs and projects. For instance, in 2010, she gave a portion of the money generated by her world tour for promoting her fourth album Prism, called the Prismatic World Tour, to UNICEF. She also donated part of the proceeds from the sales of her single Part Of Me, to a charity called MusCares; and in 2014 she helped raising $2.4 million for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, CA.
As an individual person, the stunningly beautiful Katy Perry is intelligent, strategic, charismatic, and very empathetic.
