Giorgia Meloni Becomes Italy’s First Female PM

Giorgia Meloni (45) on October 22, 2022, was sworn in as Italy’s new prime minister (PM). She becomes the country’s first female PM.

PM Giorgia Meloni’s government constitutes a right-wing political bloc entailing her political party Brothers of Italy and some other right-wing parties. Brothers of Italy got 26% of the vote in Italy’s general elections held in September 2022.

The new PM is said to be a staunch nationalist and believer of God’s order of things including the traditional family model that defines marriage as been solely a union between a man and a woman.
