Egyptian Rania Youssef Charged For Wearing Sexy Sheer Dress

Egyptian actress Rania Youssef who arrived at the red carpet of the closing ceremony of the 40th Cairo International Film Festival in Cairo on November 28, 2018, in a sexy elegant sheer dress has been charged for indecency, reported various media on December 1, 2018. She will appear in court for trial in January 2019. If found guilty, she could face up to 5 years in jail, said the reports.

In Africa, systemic interference and denial of individual freedom including freedom of choice of dressing style is not confined to Egypt. It is endemic in several other countries there, that often rationalize the human right violation on moral grounds. As such, women and female celebrities in particular, are shamed, charged, and even compelled to deliver public apologies when they dress in manners perceived morally inappropriate by the oppressive and regressive regimes.
