Nia Imani Franklin Wins Miss America 2019 Pageant

Nia Imani Franklin was crowned Miss America 2019 in the first Miss America pageant held without the iconic swimwear competition, in Atlantic City on September 9, 2018. Before becoming Miss America, Ms Franklin was Miss New York.

The dropping of the swimwear competition in the pageant, considered controversial in some quarters of the beauty and fashion industry, was spearheaded by the new hardcore feminist boss of the Miss America Organization Gretchen Carlson. She replaced it with onstage interviews.
