Eva Mendes is an American actress, model, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She was born on March 5, 1974 in Miami, Florida, to a Cuban-American Roman Catholic parents. At some point in her early years, she contemplated becoming a nun. She was raised up in Los Angeles, California, where she successfully completed Hoover High School in Glendale. She then joined California State University in Northridge to study marketing.
Eva Mendes acting career began in 1998 with a role in a film called Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror. She wasn't particularly successful in the film though. Her acting career slowly began taking shape three years later, in 2001, with a role she played in a thriller by Antoine Friqua's movie called Training Day. That was followed by roles in several other movies including: About the Benjamins (2002), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2002), and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2002).
Notwithstanding, however, it is probably the role of ex-wife of a police chief (Denzel Washington) of some city somewhere there in America in a movie called Out of Time (2003), that transformed her once and for all into a global movie star.
After the Out of Time movie, Eva Mendes kept on almost non-stop getting roles in big time movies that included: Stuck on You (2003), Hitch (2005, female lead role and with Will Smith), We Own the Night (2007), Cleaner (2007), Last Night (2010), Fast Five (2011), Girl Progress (2012), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), Clear History (2013), and Lost River (2014). Eva Mendes has won several international awards for the roles she played in movies, including Capri Hollywood Awards' Capri Global Award in 2005, and Giffoni Film Festival's Giffoni Award in 2009. She has also received many nominations for various awards.
Furthermore, Eva Mendes is a very successful model and fashion entrepreneur with her own women fashion line. Lastly but not least, Eva Mendes is a staunch philanthropist, supporting several charitable organizations including: Afghanistan Relief Organization, World Education, Equal Justice Initiative, and Food Bank for New York City.
